Pirkanmaa Music Institute
Pirkanmaa Music Institute was founded in 1970 on the initiative of the Tampere YMCA. Today it has branches in the surrounding communities as well.
Entrance examinations are held in spring. Tuition and exams are given on two levels, basic level and institute level.
Classical Studies cover all the instruments of a symphony orchestra as well as guitar, accordion, recorder, cembalo, piano and singing. Pop and Jazz Studies cover keyboard and percussion instruments, electric guitar and bass as well as wind instruments, violin and singing. Both of these Studies are exam-bound.
Free Studies are open to all interested of all ages. Students need not take exams but can take part in orchestra playing ang general music studies. However, tuition in Free Studies does not receive any state or city subsidy and studying is therefore more expensive than in exam-bound Studies.
Music Play School is open for all children aged from a couple of months up to six years.
